In this photo dating from 1989, or so, we see (from the left) Brakeman Fred Perry and Conductors
Robin Becker and Denby Jones. Robin is still serving the Museum as a Conductor and
Denby is currently the Director of Campo Operations. The photo was taken during the
locomotive run-around at Miller Creek from the observation platform of Car #1509.

The Museum's Miller Creek train can be seen in the left background, with Observation
car Robert Peary visible on the right. While the Museum attempts to recreate a
1930's railroad experience, the handheld radios are a concession to safety.

Cliff Pennick and Richard Dick

San Diego Railroad Museum volunteers Cliff Pennick and
Richard Dick (in yellow slicker) in the cab of IID #151.
Cliff is a long-time museum member and major contributor
to the effort to restore "Ten wheeler" #2353. He also is
a trainman and tour-guide. Richard is also a major force
in getting #2353 running again. He brings with him experience
working as a fireman on steam locomotives (even on #2353 when
it was in revenue service) on the San Diego & Arizona Eastern.
Both men are getting experience in running IID #151 in
anticipation of having #2353 running again this summer.

Dave Houk

outside the depot during the big 75th anniversary weekend at
Campo, CA. Twelve year old Dave also works as an on-board
food service attendant on the museum's excursion trains.
This big weekend celebrated the opening of the railroad on
November 19, 1919. From that moment on, San Diego had a direct
rail link to the east. Going through Los Angeles via Santa Fe
was not necessary any longer.

conductor on left, and Denby Jones, engineer, preparing to board
and depart the depot with a special steam-hauled excursion train.
In addition to being a conductor on the San Diego & Arizona Railway,
Lewie is also the museum's safety officer. Denby is the Director
of Campo Operations for the museum, in addition to being DSLE.
This short train is being pulled today by tiny IID #151 (0-4-0T).

conductor on left, and Jim Baker, rear brakeman, at the rear
of the museum's special steam-hauled train. This short
train is being pulled today by tiny Imperial Irrigation
District #151 (0-4-0T), which is on loan from the Pioneer
Museum in El Centro, CA for 3 months. SDRM operating crew
are using this experience to prepare for operation of the
much larger #2353 "ten-wheeler", whose restoration is
nearing completion. The Kaiser #1905 caboose is a sturdy,
all-steel unit formerly used on the Eagle Mountain line
serving the iron-ore mine in California's Mohave Desert.
