Sunday June 19, 2011

Flash! Be sure to check out the Museum's Engineer for an Hour program that will be running Father's Day Weekend. This would be a great gift for Dads of all ages! He's always wanted to run a locomotive, this is his chance!

Bring out your hubby, dad, granddad, great-granddad and the whole danged family, for a day of great food, fun, live toe-tappin' folk music and old-time train ridin'. And while you're at it, help us celebrate 50 years preserving America's rich railroad heritage.

On the menu will be a terrific BBQ beef, chicken and pork lunch with salad and all the trimmin's, prepared and served by our friendly, experienced volunteer staff. Instrumental music will be provided by Trails & Rails. Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 2:15.

You may purchase your tickets here:

Engineer for an Hour reservations are also available, but are not included with the Barbecue tickets

The museum's vintage Golden State passenger trains will provide guests with a 1 1/2-hour, 12-mile old-time train ride through the mountains and valleys of San Diego's scenic back-country. Trains will depart the 1917 Campo Depot at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. This year, a short shuttle train will whisk our visitors from the depot to the lunch venue and return.

The train ride is an integral part of this special Fathers' Day event, and is included in the ticket price. Visitors have the option of riding the 11 a.m. train and enjoying lunch on the return to Campo, or catching the 2:30 train after lunch (museum members may ride BOTH trains, if seats are available).

Online advanced reservations are required. Walk-up tickets will be sold on a "space-available" basis only, for an additional $5 charge.

Reserved tickets are just $25 for adults, $15 for kids 6 to 12, $5 for children 5 and under. Reservations will be accepted up to 72 hours prior to the event reserve now. Don't delay. Tickets will go quickly.

Want to make dad feel like he's the president of the railroad? Consider renting our 1926 private open-observation car "1509", once used on the Santa Fe Railway's famous cross-country train, the Grand Canyon. It seats 34 in carpeted, "Roaring '20s" splendor, so bring all your friends! Click here for more information and reservations.

Driving directions to the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum are available here. Be sure to allow plenty of time to drive to Campo, a small rural community of San Diego's scenic East County. While at Campo, enjoy our large Gift Store, modern restrooms, children's play area, and more than 80 examples of historic railroad locomotives, cabooses, and many other artifacts from railroading's "Golden Age".

While in the Campo area, be sure to visit the nearby Gaskill Brothers Stone Store Museum, operated by the Mountain Empire Historical Society. On the way home, enjoy a dinner at the Campo Diner, Golden Acorn Casino or the historic Barrett Junction Cafe, 13 miles west on State route 94. All aboard!
